It happened on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at approximately 6:50 a.m. in West Hempstead, according to Nassau County Police. Cathy Leary, age 75,  was crossing Cornwell Avenue at the intersection of Wildwood Road when she was struck by a 2019 Hyundai SUV that was traveling east on Cornwell Avenue. Leary, a resident of West Hempstead, was pronounced dead at the scene by medics. The driver, who was 19 years old, remained at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
