Human Remains Found At Long Island Beach
Homicide detectives are investigating after human remains were found on a Long Island beach. The discovery was made at around 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 6, at Smith Point County Park in Shirley, according to Suffolk County Police. Park employees told a 911 dispatcher that a woman had found what appeared to be a human bone. Detectives later found the bone in the sand. Lifeguards and swimmers are on high alert after two shark bites in one day on Long Island, bringing the total number of attacks to six in two weeks. The latest attack took place in Suffolk County at Seaview Beach on Fire Island around 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 13. A former Long Island fire chief suddenly died over the weekend while training with the Suffolk County Urban Search and Rescue Team, Hauppauge Fire Department said on Facebook. Stephen A. Long Island Man Rescued After Being Stranded On Raft For Hours
A Long Island man was rescued after being stranded on a raft for hours. The rescue was made overnight on Sunday, Aug. 23 at Narrow Bay in Mastic Beach. Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers received a 911 call reporting a man yelling for help in the marsh on the north side of Narrow Bay just after 3 a.m. Sunday. Marathon Will Lead To Bridge Closure On Long Island
Motorists have been advised that there will be a four-hour closure on the Smith Point Bridge over the weekend for the annual triathlon. The Suffolk County Police Department issued an alert cautioning that from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4, the Smith Point Bridge will be closed for the Smith Point Triathlon. During the bridge closure, there will also be no access to the beach.
