Emergency crews were called at around 2:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8 for a collapse at a property in Smithtown, located in the village of Head of the Harbor on Piper Lane. Two construction workers were standing on scaffolding about 30 feet in the air when the roof suddenly collapsed, according to Nassau County Police. 26-Year-Old From Merrick Airlifted After Fall From Conveyor Belt Police are investigating an industrial accident that seriously injured a Long Island man. Nassau County resident, Timothy Baumann, age 26, of Merrick, injured his arm after falling off a conveyor belt at Rason Asphalt, located at 136 Spagnoli Road, in Melville, at 8 a.m., Friday, March 11. Baumann was airlifted by helicopter to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow for treatment of serious injuries, said the Suffolk County Police. Worker Killed In Accident At Long Island Business An employee was killed in an accident at a Long Island business. It happened on Friday, Oct. 9 at approximately 4:50 p.m. in Central Islip. Osvaldo Flores-Osguin, age 45, of Brentwood, was repairing a tire on a forklift at T&D Supplies, located at 1599 Ferndale Blvd., when it exploded and struck him, Suffolk County Police said. Flores-Osguin was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Lorgio Jimenez-Suarez, 52, of Astoria, fell around 2:39 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the new shopping area located at 100 North Water Street, said Lt. Terry Blake with the Norwalk Police Department. Worker's Arm Severed While Operating Machinery At Nassau Food Company A worker suffered a gruesome arm injury at a Long Island food company. It happened on Friday, Nov. 8 just before 1 p.m. in Hicksville. According to detectives, a 28-year-old male worker was operating a piece of machinery at the US Food Corp, located at 190 Lauman Lane, when his right arm became lodged in the machine, severing his arm below his elbow.  The victim then ran next door to Energy Mechanical Corp located at 194 Lauman Lane for help.  Workers there immediately assisted the victim by using a belt as a tourniquet that controlled much bleeding, according to police.  …
