As Hurricane Franklin ramps up in the North Atlantic, New York officials are taking measures to ensure that Long Islanders stay safe. On Wednesday, Aug. 30, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that she directed state parks to suspend swimming on Long Island ocean beaches ahead of potential hurricane effects that could make the activity dangerous. Know Him? Man Accused Of Using Debit Card Stolen At Jones Beach At 3 CVS Stores
Police are asking for help in identifying a man suspected of stealing a woman’s debit card from her car on Long Island and then going on a shopping spree. The theft occurred sometime at Jones Beach State Park sometime over the summer of 2022, according to New York State Police. Investigators said the suspect got into the victim’s 2005 Nissan Altima before taking several items, including her Capital One debit card. Some COVID-19 vaccines that were administered at the Jones Beach State Park vaccination site on Long Island on one day last week have been deemed ineffective due to improper storage. The New York State Department of Health announced that the vaccine administered at Jones Beach on Monday, Feb. 15 is ineffective after it exceeded the permitted temperature to maintain its viability. Zach’s Bay At Jones Beach Closed To Swimmers Due To High Bacteria Counts, Officials Say
Zach's Bay at Jones Beach State Park is closed to swimmers due to high bacteria counts, according to park officials. The measure was announced on Wednesday, July 23. "This prohibition is a precautionary step to assure the protection of the health and safety of our swimmers," said George Gorman, regional director for the State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. Jones Beach Meadowbrook Parkway Toll Plaza To Be Demolished

Work is underway on $3.9 million project to create a more welcoming approach to Jones Beach said the April 26 announcement by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo.
