New Update: Missing 8-Year-Old From Long Island Found In Florida This story has been updated. An 8-year-old girl who was reported missing after visiting her mother at a New York hotel has been found. Long Island resident Toni Simmons, of Brookhaven, had last been seen on Saturday, April 1, in Medford, at the Comfort Inn located on Route 112, according to Suffolk County Police. On Monday afternoon, police said Simmons had been found in Florida with her mother and was unharmed. Fire At Syosset Hotel Causes Heavy Water Damage A fire at a Long Island hotel caused heavy water damage to part of the building. The blaze broke out around 9:15 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 24 at the Comfort Inn, 24 Oak St., in Syosset. According to the Nassau County Police, firefighters responded to a fire at the hotel and extinguished "a minor fire from a dryer vent in the laundry room area." Officers safely evacuated the occupants and no injuries were reported, police said.
