Popular Carle Place Diner Closes Temporarily One of the most popular spots for breakfast on Long Island is closed temporarily due to a fire. The fire started at the 76-year-old Nassau County diner, the iconic Thomas's Ham and Eggery in Carle Place just after 8 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 26. According to the Carle Place Fire Department, when firefighters arrived on the scene they began searching for the seat of the fire and found it in the electrical panel in the basement. Fire Destroys Nassau County Home, Damages Four Others A home was destroyed and four others damaged during a raging fire that caused the evacuation of neighboring homes on Long Island. The fire started around 4:20 a.m., Monday, March 15, on Evelyn Avenue, in Westbury, said the Nassau County Police. According to detectives, officers responded to a residential fire on Evelyn Avenue.
