Two people were killed, and two others injured, in a one-car crash on the Southern State Parkway on Long Island, police said.
First responders were dispatched to a stretch of the parkway at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, when a crash was reported in Islip, police said. The crash temporarily caused police investigators to close down westbound lanes near exit 41A.
Traffic was diverted onto the Sagtikos Parkway during the investigation into the fatal crash.
Police said that the identities of the killed and injured parties would not immediately be released.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, police said.
