Reckless BMW Driver, 20, Crashes Into Police Cruiser In Lynbrook, Police Say

A 20-year-old who was driving recklessly on Sunrise Highway crashed into a patrol cruiser as officers attempted to pull him over, police said.

The incident happened around 1:45 P.M. Friday, Aug. 2 in Lynbrook.

According to detectives, Bryant Veal, of Trenton, New Jersey, was observed by an officer driving recklessly in a 2015 BMW while traveling westbound on Sunrise Highway. 

The officer activated the patrol car's emergency lights and attempted to stop the vehicle in order to conduct a vehicle and traffic law stop. 

Veal then struck a marked Lynbrook Police vehicle near the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Horton Avenue, police said. Veal was then arrested by officers without further incident. 

The Lynbrook officer did sustain non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Veal has been charged with reckless endangerment, assault, unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle, criminal mischief, reckless driving, unlawful possession of marijuana, and multiple traffic infractions. 

He will be arraigned on Saturday, Aug. 3 at First District Court in Hempstead.
