Police are attempting to identify a man who allegedly broke into a Long Island car dealership and stole money from several desks.

The incident took place around 1 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 12, at Garden City Nissan in Hempstead, said the Nassau County Police.

According to detectives, an investigation revealed that the man entered through a side door that was left open.

A security camera showed the man opening desk drawers while walking through the garage and office areas of the building.

A further investigation determined that at least two desk chairs had been damaged and an undetermined amount of cash had been removed from desk drawers, police said.

The man is described as being 5-foot-9, with a close-shaven beard and mustached, with gray hair and was wearing a gray knit cap, bright blue jacket, blue jeans, a black fanny pack, along with a camouflage backpack.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.

All callers will remain anonymous.
