A man in a wheelchair crossing a busy Long Island intersection was struck and killed by a pickup truck.
It happened Monday, Feb. 10 at approximately 8:40 p.m. in Patchogue.
The man was crossing Waverly Avenue, approximately 200 feet south of Gateway Boulevard, when he was struck by a 2003 Dodge Ram Pickup being driven by Santiago Diaz of Central Islip.
The victim, 62, of Patchogue, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead.
Diaz, 45, of Central Islip, stayed at the scene and was uninjured. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
