Donna Hulse’s Jade Street residents made multiple complaints to the SPCA and police about what they alleged were dead dogs inside her home and a strong smell of urine and feces in recent weeks, SPCA Chief Roy Gross said.
Gross said that when SPCA officers went to the house on Jade Street previously, their view inside was blocked because the windows had been covered from the inside and Hulse refused to allow them inside to inspect the premises.
However, on Wednesday, Sept. 16, Hulse allowed SPCA detectives inside, where they found four live dogs, a live cat, and four dead dogs living in “deplorable conditions.”
The Town of Islip Fire Marshal also responded to the residence and posted it as uninhabitable. The live pets were transported over to the Town of Islip Animal Shelter, where they will be treated, examined, and later evaluated for adoption.
Hulse was arrested and charged with five counts of animal cruelty. She was later released and scheduled to be arraigned on the charges on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
