From 2 to 4 p.m., participants will collect data from the painted and snapping turtles living in Bechtel Lake and the Box Turtles that live in Westmoreland’s Wildlife Management Area.
Participants will meet in the museum and either hike down to the lake or carpool to the wildlife management area dependent on which turtles the group will be studying. It is advised to dress in long pants and close toed shoes.
Each program will range from one to two hours in length and will be canceled in the event of severe weather. No RSVP necessary, but program will begin promptly at designated time. The event is $5 for non-members, and free to members.
Snake lovers should join Westmoreland’s Director of Conservation on a hike in search of native snakes at 10 a.m. Participants will learn about the life history of snakes, their importance in our environment and meet the resident snakes. Again, wear long pants and close toed shoes.
