Former Briarcliff Resident Burt Erickson Passes Away at 100
Burt Erickson, 100 years young, formerly of Briarcliff Manor and Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully on Oct. 23, 2023 at the Veteran’s Association Nursing Home in Montrose, where he received wonderful care. Burt was born on March 8, 1923 in Chicago, the son of Frances and Burton Erickson. He was the oldest of three children. He was predeceased in death by his sister Gertrude “Trudie” Hodges and his brother Jerome “Jerry” Erickson. Burt married the love of his life Rita Marie Jerome on Dec. 27, 1952. The brother of a United State Army sergeant from the Hudson Valley who was indicted for the murder of a father of two has now been charged in connection to that crime. Orange County resident Junando Dawkins, age 29, of Newburgh, was apprehended at the US Army base in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, this past March and charged with the death of Daniel Spotards, age 41, whose body was found in Ulster County at the end of his driveway by a sanitation worker in the Town of Plattekill on Monday, Jan. 2. Former Local Police Chief Who Resided In Northern Westchester Dies
A former police chief from Westchester County has died. Robert William Lipsky died at the Sunrise of Crestwood Assisted Living Facility in Yonkers on Tuesday, Nov. 29, according to his obituary. He was age 93. He was born in Tarrytown and graduated from Irvington High School. Lipsky went on to join the United States Army stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey, earning an honorable discharge as a corporal in 1950, his obituary said. A man who grew up in Westchester County and spent more than 50 years working at an insurance company in Connecticut has died at the age of 91. Fairfield County resident Anthony “Tony” Ragusa, of Wilton, died at Danbury Hospital on Thursday, Aug. 4, following a brief illness, according to his obituary. He was born in Port Chester and graduated from Port Chester High School. A US Army sergeant from the Hudson Valley died while on active duty. Dutchess County native Bryan Micheal Faison, a lifelong Beacon resident, died suddenly on Friday, June 17 in Asia while serving in the Country of Brunei, according to his obituary. The United States Army announced plans to begin discharging soldiers who refuse to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The military branch made the announcement on Wednesday, Feb. 2, saying the Army will "immediately begin separating Soldiers from the service" following a directive issued by Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth.
