The incident occurred on Monday, March 3, at around 8:30 p.m., when the suspect approached a victim on foot near 10 Davenport Ave. in New Rochelle, the city's police department announced on Tuesday, March 4.

The suspect had a short conversation with the victim before taking out a handgun and stealing his cell phone and wallet, police said.

The victim described the suspect as a Black male with dreadlocks and glasses.

Officers quickly launched an investigation, developing leads that led them to an apartment at the Harbor House Apartments, the department said. Soon enough, detectives found and arrested the 17-year-old suspect without incident.

During their investigation, officers also recovered a .32 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun and the victim’s stolen belongings, directly linking the suspect to the crime, authorities said.

The teen, whose name was not made public, was arraigned virtually and is now being held at Woodfield Cottage in Valhalla, facing the following charges:

  • First-degree robbery;
  • Fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
