The first round of the Section 1 playoffs concluded Friday with several local teams in action.
New Rochelle rolled past Mamaroneck, 65-40 in the Class AA playoffs. Tigers coach Tyrone Carver Jr. said that he was proud of his team despite the loss.
Nobody can take anything away from what these kids have been able to accomplish, Carver said. To have the season that we've had at Mamaroneck, that hasn't happened in years. Its just unfortunate that it ended the way it ended but nothing and nobody can take away from what these kids have accomplished this year.
Byram Hills pulled away from Rye, 53-40, in Class A action even after Jeff Lynch aggravated the foot injury that has plagued him all season. Bobcats guard Andrew Maloney said his team knew it had to keep going without him.
Hes been hobbled these last few weeks. Im not saying were used to it, but were getting kind of used to it, Maloney said. But it was a great all-around team effort. Were a family, so when one goes down we pick that person up regardless of if hes on the floor or not.
In other Class AA action, Carmel defeated White Plains, 59-47. Fox Lane squeaked by Suffern, 40-36. Mahopac edged Ossining, 55-54. Arlington got past Horace Greeley, 44-42.
In Class A, Poughkeepsie knocked off Pelham, 50-44. Peekskill beat John Jay Cross River, 75-64. Eastchester blew out Harrison, 71-47.
In Class B, Valhalla beat Rye Neck, 38-35. Blind Brook topped Westlake, 56-44. Pleasantville defeated Hastings, 54-39. Briarcliff outlasted Bronxville, 45-41. Croton-Harmon beat Pawling, 66-56.
