Hopatcong Driver, 70, Fatally Hits Newark Woman: Cops
A 66-year-old Newark woman was fatally struck by a vehicle in Summit on the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 20, police said. At 6:51 a.m. police responded to River Road, between Morris Avenue and Plain Street, and found the woman struck by a 2018 Toyota Tundra, driven by a 70-year-old Hopatcong man. The woman was pronounced dead after being transferred to Overlook Medical Center. The incident is under investigation by the Summit Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau. More than 20 pounds of fentanyl and an additional 9,000 doses of the deadly drug were seized with the arrests of eight members of a major trafficking ring that operated on both sides of the Hudson River, authorities said. Those charged in the federally-led offensive range in age from 37 to 60. Unconscious Man, 35, Dies Outside Summit Train Station: Police
A 35-year-old man died at a train station in Summit overnight, authorities said. The Summit man was found unconscious at the bus stop outside the station around 2:50 a.m. Friday, August 12, Summit Police said. Officers immediately began performing CPR and administering Narcan on the man, who was later pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The man’s official cause of death was pending an autopsy but did not seem to involve foul play, police said. His identity was not released. Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad and Atlantic Health System paramedics also assisted at the scene. …

Burn Victim Transferred In Overlook Medical Center Fire
A seventh-story electrical fire at Overlook Medical Center sent one person to a different hospital for treatment Tuesday, June 14. The blaze was put out before crews arrived around 8 p.m., sending a burn victim to Cooperman Barnabus Medical Center, Summit police tell Daily Voice. No further information was immediately available. Summit Police Department and Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad responded to the scene. The Summit Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Millburn, Springfield, and Union fire departments.

A 57-year-old Short Hills Tesla driver died in a multi-vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer on Route 24 in Summit Thursday, May 19, authorities said. David M. Baum was traveling in the right lane on the eastbound side of the highway when he was struck by a Volvo tractor trailer, causing a chain-reaction crash near milepost 9 just after 2 p.m., New Jersey State Police Trooper Charles Marchan said. NJ Police Lt. Mark Horan Takes His Own Life After 24 Years On Force
A police lieutenant who took his own life over the weekend in his New Jersey home is being remembered as a devoted dad and exemplary officer. Hamilton Police Lt. Mark Horan died Saturday, April 30 in his home. He was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, NJ Advance Media reports. Horan joined Hamilton's force in 1998 and assigned to the patrol division. He moved to the anti-crime unit in 2009, and a year later, was promoted to sergeant. In 2017, he was promoted again to lieutenant, serving in the anti-crime, patrol and administration divisions. A Union County jury on Tuesday returned a guilty verdict against a Summit man charged with armed robbery after threatening a gas station attendant at knifepoint in 2018.
