Officers, Suspect Treated For Hypothermia After Pursuit Ends Neck-Deep In Sussex County Swamp
A 42-year-old New York man and a Sussex County police officer were hospitalized for hypothermia after the man was nabbed neck-deep in swamp water, authorities said.
Joseph M Flood, of Port Jervis, NY, had been eluding police in various jurisdictions but was spotted by police in Andover while on Anover-Mohawk Road in a Chevy Avalanche around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, local police said.
Flood continued south on Andover-Mohawk Road, but fled on food after losing control and hitting a utility pole, Andover police said.

Sussex County native and beloved father William D. VanGorden died suddenly at Newton Medical Center on Oct. 21. He was 31.
Born in Newton, VanGorden grew up in Sussex County before settling in Lords Valley, PA, his obituary says.
VanGorden was known for his love of sports, including the NY Mets, LA Lakers, Dallas Cowboys and UFC Champion Connor McGregor, as well as TV series Trailer Park Boys and Sons of Anarchy, according to his memorial.

Support is skyrocketing for a North Jersey family after the death of beloved husband, longtime teacher and father Robert Ambrosino from a sudden brain aneurysm.
Ambrosino, a longtime Dover High School teacher, coach and musician, collapsed from a sudden and unexpected brain aneurysm and was taken to Newton Medical Center on Sept. 26, according to a GoFundMe launched by Alexis, who says she is Ambrosino’s niece.

Police: Sussex County Man, 32, Swings Tomahawk In Public Parking Lot Assault
A Sussex County man threatened and swung a Tomahawk at a victim during two separate altercations last week, police said.
Robert Cibula, 32, of Andover Township, approached a man in the Adams Street Parking Lot in Newton while holding a knife and making threats on Dec. 29 around 8:40 p.m., local police said.
The victim ran from the area and returned a short time later only to be approached once again by Cibula, who swung at him with a Tomahawk axe and injured his hand, police said.

Police: DUI Morris County Woman, 26, Swerves Off Road, Slams Into Tree
A Morris County woman was under the influence when she swerved off the road and slammed into a tree over the weekend, authorities said.
Rebecca Dwyer, 26, was driving south on High Street near the Summit Avenue Pond in Newton around 2:45 a.m. Saturday when her 2006 Honda Civic swerved off the road and hit a tree, which deployed the vehicle’s airbag, police said.
Dwyer was transported via Atlantic Ambulance to Newton Medical Center, where she was treated for arm and hand injuries, police said.

Police: Sussex County Man, 41, Busted In Attempted Home Break-In
An impaired Sussex County man used a broomstick when he attempted to break into a Newton home, authorities said.
Gerald Mitchell Jr., 41, was seen coming from a vacant home before hitting the door of an enclosed porch at a Newton home in an attempt to gain access shortly before 7 a.m. on Oct. 5, police said.
Mitchell, of Newton, was showing signs of impairment during the incident, police said. He was treated at Newton Medical Center and later charged with unlicensed entry, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
Mitchell was released and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 28.
Police: DUI Sussex County Woman, 31, Injured After Hitting Utility Pole, Parking Meters
A Sussex County woman was driving under the influence when she crashed into a utility pole and two parking meters damaging them -- and injuring her head, neck and back, authorities said.
Marisa Izquierdo, 31, was driving a 1995 Toyota Camry westbound in Newton when she hit the pole and the meters in front of 33 Trinity St. just after 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
