Holy Mackerel! This is no fish tale. New Jersey Fish & Wildlife has officially certified the catch of a new state record saltwater fish. Dominic Vricella was fishing east of the Manasquan Inlet where he landed the new state record King Mackerel on July 30. The fish weighed 67 pounds, 7.2 ounces, smashing the previous record of 54 pounds, 0 ounces off Cape May in 1998, state officials said. Authorities have identified the two fishermen who drowned New Year's Weekend at Split Rock Reservoir. The bodies of Stanislaw Grezesik, 64, of Clifton, and Tadeusz Florczuk, 76, of Passaic, went on the ice fishing trip at Split Rock Reservoir in Kinnelon on Friday, Dec. 30 — but never returned home, Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll said. Family members called 911 on Dec. 31 at 2 p.m., and the fishermen's belongings were found on the shoreline at the reservoir — along with two holes in the ice approximately 100 yards from shore. A father and son from Pennsylvania got the surprise of a lifetime from a humpback whale while fishing on the Jersey Shore — and they got it on video. Zach Piller, 23, of Bensalem, took his phone out to capture his dad Doug's catch while fishing off coast of Belmar on Wednesday, Oct. 12. That's when the whale came lurching out of the water, smacking the side of the Pillers' boat. "Oh sh*t," Zach yells from behind the camera. "I got that on video!" James Gelcius of Kearny died on Sunday, June 19. He was 26 years old. James grew up and lived in Kearny, and was passionate about fishing, riding his ATV, video games and listening to music, his obituary says. A Hunterdon County man recently set a new record for the largest landlocked salmon catch in the state, officials confirmed. Joe Satkowski of Hampton caught the fish in Merrill Creek Reservoir on Sept. 30, the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife said. Pennsylvania State Police seek the public's help in finding a fugitive -- an avid fisherman suspected of killing his wife. A warrant was secured on Tuesday for the arrest of Richard Walski, 46 of Luzerne County for the murder of his wife, Patricia.
