UPDATE: The 45-year-old dump truck driver has been charged with vehicular manslaughter as authorities say he was on his phone at the time of the accident. A man was killed in a fiery crash with a garbage truck before dawn on Monday, May 8, Pequannock Police have confirmed. The crash occurred on Route 23 north near the intersection of Alexander Avenue just before 5:20 a.m. The victim was driving a 2020 Chevy Traverse when he collided with a garbage truck, police said. A tractor-trailer tipped across the entire southbound side of Route 17 early Saturday, closing the highway coming down from Route 287. The rig ran up the grassy curb outside Jack Daniels Porsche in Upper Saddle River, took down a sign and pitched onto its side, leaving it lying across both shoulders and all three lanes, shortly before midnight April 29. Chicken Waste Spill Causes HazMat Situation Along South Jersey Highway
A trailer hauling chicken waste products crashed, spilling its contents all over Route 55 and causing a HazMat situation in Gloucester County on Monday, Feb. 27. The northbound side of the roadway was closed in Deptford from mile marker 59.2 to the Route 42 interchange following the 9 a.m. crash. The roadway had reopened as of 1:45 p.m., but crews were still on scene for cleanup. HazMat crews, the New Jersey State Police, NJDOT, and multiple fire departments were on scene. Environmental services were notified and were monitoring the incident. No injuries were reported.
