61K Gun Safes Sold At Retailers Nationwide Recalled After 12-Year-Old Shot, Killed With Weapon More than 61,000 gun cases sold nationwide are being recalled due to a malfunction that can allow unauthorized people to access dangerous weapons, and already led to the death of a child. Illinois-based Fortress Safe announced this week that the biometric gun safes were being recalled due to a "serious safety hazard and risk of death" caused by a programming feature that made the safes more accessible.  The recall comes following a recent lawsuit that alleges a 12-year-old boy died from a gun obtained from one of the safes, according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).  "…

Target Shooter, 73, Accidentally Wounds Himself At Passaic County Gun Range A 73-year-old man accidentally clipped the tip of his index finger at a Passaic County gun range over the weekend, authorities said. Officers who responded to Gun For Hire at the Woodland Park Range on McBride Avenue around noon Sunday tended to the victim before EMS arrived, Police Chief John Uzzalino said. He was taken to St. Joseph's University Medical Center in Paterson for treatment. As often happens, scanner listeners mistakenly shared word of the incident as a shooting at McBride and Lackawanna avenues instead of what it was.The chief thanked everyone for their concern.

Mom Of Toddler Who Accidentally Shot Himself Dead 'Lost For Words' A 4-year-old boy from Pittsburgh has died after shooting himself in the face, according to police. The boy was identified by family members to CBS2 as Ajani Lane. His mom, Nay Lane, mourned his loss on Facebook. Police were called to a home in the 500 block of North Negley in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood around 8 a.m., according to a statement by the police. The boy was transported to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh where he later died, police said. There was a caregiver present in the home at the time of the shooting, according to police.  An investigation is ongoing.

2-Year-Old Child Picks Up Loaded Handgun Left At Warren County Playground A 2-year-old found and picked up a loaded handgun left at a Phillipsburg playground over the weekend, authorities said. The gun was found Sunday afternoon at Firth playground near the intersection of Bates Street and Marshall Street. “I couldn’t imagine it,” Phillipsburg police Lt. John Maczko told NJ.com. “Thankfully, nothing happened.” The owner of the handgun has not been identified, and police are unsure whether or not it had legal registration. The department plans to follow up with an investigation of surveillance footage from homes in the area.
