A 43-year-old Paterson man was killed after he crashed into a truck on Route 80 in Essex County on the early morning of Friday, April 12, authorities said.
Sixto Torres-Duran was driving a Mazda eastbound on Route 80 in Fairfield when he lost directional control, ran off the roadway to the right and crashed into a guardrail just after 2:45 a.m., Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said.

Four people have been charged, with one currently at large, in a series of car thefts and burglaries across North Jersey last summer, police announced Thursday, March 21.
It all began on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at 2:27 a.m., when Fairfield police responded to a crash at Route 280, the department said.
The occupants of the vehicle had fled the scene prior to state troopers arriving on scene, police said. An investigation revealed the vehicle had just been stolen from a residence on Hollywood Avenue, police said. Personal belongings were also stolen from the residence, police said.

A Paterson woman was arrested and charged with shoplifting after she took clothing and a sex toy from Essex Adult Emporium on Friday, March 8, authorities said.
At 2:10 p.m., Rose Torres-Rice entered the store, selected several pieces of item and the toy and placed them counter, Fairfield police said.
She then asked to use the dressing room, but as she was being escorted there, she returned the counter, took the items and left the store, police said. Torres-Rice took $225.24 worth of items from the store.

At 12:35 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 24, police responded to a two-car crash on Passaic Avenue in front of Franklin Steakhouse, officers said. A Lyndhurst man wanted for trashing a relative's home ran from police, then fought with them before being subdued, authorities said.
Officers responding to a call from a Stuyvesant Avenue home learned that Faiz Mohammad, 27, had become irate and vandalized the place, causing $1,300 worth of damage before fleeing, Detective Lt. Vincent Auteri said.
Police were looking out for Mohammad when he returned, prompting the relative to hide in a bathroom and call police, Auteri said.

A second person was arrested and a third victim died following a birthday party shooting over the weekend in Cumberland County, authorities announced.
Darrell Dawkins, 30, of Bridgeton, was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun days after Kevin Dawkins, 36, was arrested on similar charges, New Jersey State Police said.
