Jersey Shore Native Who Became Marine Corps Leader Dies, 95: 'His Legacy Will Endure' A Jersey Shore native who became the highest-ranking officer in the Marines has died, the military branch said. Retired Gen. Alfred Gray Jr. died on Wednesday, Mar. 20 after "a brief stay in hospice care," the U.S. Marines Corps announced. He was 95 years old.
