Mayor Richard A. Mola presented 6-year-old Aryan Gavali with a commendation. Aryan was attacked by a raccoon while walking to school Jan. 27.

The raccoon later tested positive for rabies.

Danny Walls, who helped free Aryan from the raccoon's grip, also received a commendation.

Aryan's family started a GoFundMe account to help pay for his medical bills after the attack. The page raised more than $2,100 as of Friday morning.

Aryan is doing well in his recovery but needed rabies vaccinations; it says.
