Two vehicles hit a man as he tried to cross dark, busy Route 17 in Ramsey, authorities said. Described only as in his 20s, the victim was wearing dark clothing when he tried to make his way across the highway roughly a half-mile south of the Lake Street overpass shortly after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, Ramsey Police Chief Brian Lyman said. Where he was headed wasn’t clear. Upper Saddle River police officers broke the rear window to free a driver whose SUV landed on its side after hitting a utility pole on Route 17 during the heavy overnight rainstorm, authorities said. The 49-year-old Paterson motorist was headed south when he lost control of his Ford Explorer, which went off the roadway and hit the pole outside Jack Daniels Audi shortly after 1 a.m., Police Capt. Minivan Crash Topples Wires, Closes Route 17 For Hours
A crash that stretched utility wires across Route 17 Sunday morning in Upper Saddle River occurred when a 58-year-old Paterson driver suffered a medical episode, authorities told Daily Voice. The victim was alone in his Dodge Caravan when it veered off the southbound highway and struck a tree and a utility pole near Maserati of Bergen County shortly after 7:30 a.m., Detective Lt. Burning Wires Fall In Ramsey, Jam Area Traffic
Ramsey firefighters doused separate mini-blazes sparked Monday by downed utility lines blocks apart. Burning wires fell on Lake Street at Franklin Turnpike in front of Eastwick College and on Canterbury Drive, spreading to some brush. PSE&G shut down power to the area so that firefighters could extinguish the blazes. Lake Street was temporarily closed in both directions from Franklin Turnpike to Debaun Avenue, creating a traffic mess. No injuries were reported. EMS Worker Who Helped Revive Heart Attack Victim Among Honored Ramsey Responders
A Ramsey EMS worker who helped revive a 22-year-old man who went into cardiac at a local gym was among a group of heroes honored by the local Knights of Columbus. Marc Greenwood was at Retro Fitness off Route 17 when the victim collapsed on April 28, Police Chief Bryan Gurney said at the time. A driver was crushed beneath a pile of bricks that fell on him during a delivery Tuesday in Ramsey, authorities said. Responding police officers lifted the pallet of slate-type pavers off the 67-year-old driver following the mishap at an Alida Place residence just before 11:30 a.m., Ramsey Police Chief Bryan Gurney said. A gas leak at a Ramsey dentist's office forced the evacuations of adjacent businesses and residences while temporarily halting area traffic during the Wednesday evening rush. A 44-year-old driver walked away unscathed early Sunday after her Mercedes barreled over gas pumps and crashed into a Ramsey service station, igniting a fully-involved fire. Ramsey Rescue Clears Chlorine-Laced Trash That Fell From Truck Near School
Hazardous materials technicians from the Ramsey Rescue squad cleared a pile of chlorine-laced trash that fell off the back of a garbage truck near an elementary school on Monday. Ramsey police, firefighters and Ambulance Corps members also responded to the Island Avenue incident near the Wesley D. Tisdale School. So did their colleagues from OEM, DPW and a Bergen County Hazmat team. "The scene has been mitigated without incident," the rescue squad reported. There were no injuries, the squad said.

Traffic Jam, Power Outage: SUV Slams Into Route 17 Utility Pole In Ramsey
A driver was hospitalized with a head injury after his SUV slammed into a utility pole early Friday evening on Route 17 in Ramsey. Downed power lines fell in front of and behind a Federal Express tractor-trailer, further thickening area traffic near Spring Street and knocking out power to some area customers.
