SWAT Standoff Ends In Harrington Park: Barricaded Man Hospitalized, Streets Reopened

A SWAT-team standoff of more than 2½ hours ended peacefully in Harrington Park Thursday afternoon with a troubled man being taken for a psychiatric evaluation.

Streets were closed around Burkhardt Lane, where the incident occurred, and Herron Court, where a staging area was set up.

A Bergen County Regional SWAT team, a negotiations unit and police from Harrington Park and Norwood were among the responders, along with borough ambulances.

The 25-year-old man was taken to New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus after being talked out of the home, responders said.

An older woman was treated for elevated blood pressure.
