Surveillance Shot Leads Paramus Detective To Glass-Smash Burglary Suspect

PARAMUS, N.J. -- Surveillance video led a Paramus detective to a man who accused of smashing his way into stores at a Route 17 strip mall and stealing $3,000 in cash, authorities told Daily Voice.

Three storefront glass doors were found smashed and the cash taken early last Wednesday from a SuperJuice Nation store and a Supercuts, Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg said.

A PetValue store in the center had its front glass door broken, as well, but nothing was taken, he said.

Detective Nicholas Luciano got surveillance video from one of the businesses, issued a statewide bulletin -- and got a call from Madison police.

They identified the burglar as Mark A. Piacenza Jr., 34, of Bloomfield, Ehrenberg said.

Madison police said they were looking for Piacenza, as well, for crimes in their town, the chief said.

It turned out he already was in custody in Newark on unrelated charges, he said.

Piacenza led Luciano to a safe taken from SuperJuice and to some other proceeds from the break-ins, Ehrenberg said.

Piacenza remained held in the Essex County Jail, with $10,000 bail fixed on charges out of Paramus of two counts of burglary and one of attempted burglary.
