Jay Rockefeller Dies: Heir To Family Dynasty, Former US Senator, Governor Jay Rockefeller, an heir to one of America’s most famous fortunes who built a political legacy far from his New York roots, has died. The former West Virginia governor and five-term US senator died Friday, Nov. 6, at his home in Washington, DC. He was 89.
