PARAMUS, N.J. — All but one of Vincent LoSacco's pet shops have been shut down since April, when Paramus police discovered 67 dogs being crated overnight in a van behind the Just Pups Route 17 store.
Charges were dropped at a November hearing after LoSacco — who had shops in Paramus, Emerson, East Brunswick and Valhalla, N.Y. — pleaded guilty to several borough and health code violations.
Since the incident, several municipalities across New Jersey have banned the sale of puppy mill dogs.
Just Pups is still open in East Hanover in Morris County.
One month before the shocking Paramus discovery, three dead dogs were recovered from the freezer of LoSacco's East Brunswick store.
Tenafly rescuer Robyn Urman took in the 63 dogs from LoSacco's East Brunswick shop. As of this week, they were all spayed or neutered, and are all in a permanent home.
