John-Tyler Dawes, 27, of Delaware County, died suddenly on Sunday, Feb. 12, according to his obituary. Born in Neptune, NJ, Dawes graduated from the Delaware County Christian School and later from Messiah College with a degree in education. Dawes was active in various churches in the community and served as a YMCA counselor — "a role he cherished," according to his obituary. Murder Defendant In Paterson YMCA Stabbing Takes Deal, Pleads Guilty to Lesser Charge A 34-year-old Paterson man admitted stabbing another city resident dead at the local YMCA. Jasmir Cleaves, 34, originally was charged with murder in the killing of Gabrae “Brae” Sams Jr., 29, in a fifth-floor hallway of the Y on Ward Street last Aug. 6. Police responding to the call fought to save Sams’s life. He was later pronounced dead at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center. YMCA In Central Jersey Evacuated Due To Carbon Monoxide Leak: Developing A YMCA in Central Jersey was evacuated due to a hazardous materials incident, according to a developing and unconfirmed report. The incident occurred about 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at 166 Maple Ave. (Route 35) in Red Bank, according to initial reports. An unconfirmed report said the emergency was due to a carbon monoxide leak in the basement of the building. Red Bank police and the Fire Marshal were not immediately available for comment. Jasmir Cleaves, 32, was charged with murder and weapons possession following his arrest shortly before 7 p.m., authorities said. Cleaves had stabbed Gabrae Sams, 29, on the fifth floor of the Y, on Ward Street, around noon Friday, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. He already is serving a federal prison sentence in Mississippi on related charges, they said. Matthew Wolny of Jackson Township was sentenced on Friday to five years in New Jersey State Prison, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.  Wolny's sentence will run concurrently with a prior federal sentence, the prosecutor said.
