Fairview police dodge traffic to catch drug suspect

Officer John Pierotti Jr. pulled over Anthony Guevara, 29, on Fairview Avenue just below Bergen Boulevard a little after 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon. Almost immediately, the officer smelled the odor of marijuana in the car, Del Vecchio said.

The officer asked Guevara to get out — and he bolted, the chief said

Pierotti and Officer Bryan Yannuzzi took off after him, darting around moving cars, and subdued Guevara after a struggle, Del Vecchio said.

They frisked him and found several hundred dollars in cash along with the coke, then arrested his girlfriend, 24-year-old Yadira Nieves, who was still in the car with their child — and carrying some pot, the chief said.

Nieves was released pending a court hearing on a pair of summonses. Guevara was taken to the Bergen County Jail, where he was being held on $35,000, charged with several offenses. He has a Feb. 1 Municipal Court date.

Police notified DYFS, which sent a worker.
