Congers Woman Charged With Stealing Merchandise From Pearl River ShopRite ORANGETOWN, N.Y. -- Orangetown police arrested a 52-year-old resident of Congers on a larceny charge following an incident at ShopRite in Pearl River, police said. The arrest came about after the suspect, identified as Karen Martin, was observed by store employees leaving the premises with approximately $200 of merchandise without paying for it, according to police. Martin was taken into custody on Sunday, around 1:52 p.m., according to police. The defendant has been charged with petty larceny and criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, both misdemeanors, police said. …

Police Issue Alert To Residents After Burglary Attempt In Orangeburg ORANGETOWN, N.Y. -- Orangetown police are alerting local residents to a burglary that occurred at a home on Sherwood Lane Friday around 8 p.m., police said. Police responded to a burglar alarm at the home, and found the rear French door windows had been smashed in, according to police. Sunday Road Closure Announced In North Castle NORTH CASTLE, N.Y. -- North Castle police are informing the public that Virginia Road will be closed to all traffic between Lafayette Avenue and the Bronx River Parkway on Sunday, Oct. 2, from 6 p.m. to around midnight. The closure is being implemented to accommodate Metro North Railroad’s ongoing construction efforts on Virginia Road in the area of the railroad crossing. Traffic control devices will be utilized to divert traffic in the area. Motorists are asked to use alternate routes.

Ramapo Police Seek Public's Help In Search For Man Wanted On Weapons Charge RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Ramapo police are asking the public’s help in locating a fugitive, police said. The suspect, Joel Zorilla, is facing charges of second-degree menacing and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, according to police. The charges stem from an incident that occurred in Monsey in 2015, police said. Anyone with information about Zorilla’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Ramapo Police Department at 845-357-2400.

Danbury Police Warn Consumers: Don't Fall For Eversource Phone Scam DANBURY, Conn. -- The Danbury Police Department has been receiving an increase in complaints about a phone scam in which the callers impersonate representatives of Eversource, police said. Holmes School Students In Darien Raise Funds With Walkathon DARIEN, Conn. -- Holmes School students, faculty and parents participated in the school’s third annual walkathon fundraiser on Friday, Sept. 23. Students submitted their pledge forms, showed their school spirit and walked in the sunshine at the outdoor event. All proceeds from the walk went back to the school. Funds from previous walkathons helped install water bottle fountain stations and purchase benches for the Holmes School playground.
