Celebrate Fall At Darien Nature Center's Annual 'Hoot And Howl' DARIEN, Conn. -- The Darien Nature Center will host its annual Hoot and Howl  community fall event on Sunday, Oct. 30, from 4-6 p.m. The family-friendly gathering will include face painting, animal encounters, magic shows, hay rides, s’mores and stories around a campfire. Mahopac Woman Charged With Stealing At Jefferson Valley Mall YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- A 58-year-old resident of Mahopac has been arrested on a larceny charge following an incident at Sears in the Jefferson Valley Mall, Yorktown Police said. The arrest came about when police responded to a shoplifting complaint at the store, located at 600 Lee Blvd., on Saturday around 5:30 p.m., according to police. Hillcrest Firefighters Extinguish Blaze That Engulfed Land Rover RAMAPO. N.Y. -- The Hillcrest Fire Department extinguished a fire that  consumed a 2005 Land Rover on Monday afternoon, according to officials from the Ramapo Police Department. Police responded to the report of the fire on New Hempstead Road in the area of the Palisades Parkway at about 2:51 p.m., police said. The blaze apparently started in the engine compartment of the vehicle while it was in motion, according to police. Hillcrest firefighters responded, and put out the flames, police said. There were no injuries during the incident, and the road is now open, according to police.
