Teen Burn Victim Airlifted After Sussex County Cooking Accident, State Police Say (Photos) A teen was flown to a nearby hospital after suffering burns while cooking in Sussex County, state police said. Troopers responded to a home on Beemer Church Road and found that the teen’s shirt had caught on fire while cooking around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 21, NJSP Sgt. Philip Curry told DailyVoice.com. The teen was flown via Hackensack Air to St. Barnabas Livingston for treatment. The Wantage Township First Aid Squad, Beemerville Fire Company, and St. Clare’s paramedics also assisted. The Sparta Township Fire Department responded to the crash near Sparta Avenue and Surrey Lane in Sparta and found the victim trapped in one of the vehicles around 8:05 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, the squad said. The victim was safely extricated and remained conscious and alert during the rescue, the department said. Heroes: Byram Police Save Elderly Man Choking On Food Police in Byram jumped to action to save the life of a 60-year-old man who had stopped breathing and had no pulse after choking on food Tuesday afternoon. Sgt. Daniel DeWald, Officer Victor Marin and Officer Marcus Lisa started to perform CPR on the man at a home in Byram around 12:30, authorities said. The officers then attached an automatic external defibrillator and were able to successfully remove “a large quantity of food” from the man’s airway, authorities said.
