NJ Man Stole $126K From Coworkers, Others To Fund Sports Betting: Prosecutor
A New Jersey man used fake real estate flips, made-up personal emergencies and his construction business to steal more than $126,000 from coworkers and other victims to fund his sports betting accounts, authorities said.
Matthew A. DaMatta, 50, of Linden, was charged with second-degree theft by deception following an investigation by the Union County Prosecutor's Office Special Prosecutions Unit, Prosecutor William A. Daniel announced Friday, Sept. 18.

Amir Hamza, 45, of Ridgewood, NJ, was killed Monday, Sept. 14 at Whip-o-Will Campground in Ulster County, NY, authorities said.
A funeral prayer for Hamza will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Islamic Center of Passaic County in Paterson, according to a Facebook post from Mahmoud Hamza. A burial at East Ridgelawn Cemetery in Clifton will follow.

A 27-year-old Oceanside, NY resident was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated on Route 46, authorities announced.
At 11:46 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 12, officers observed a blue Hyundai traveling east on Route 46 failing to maintain its lane of travel, Mount Olive police said. Officers initiated a traffic stop and as they spoke with the driver, John Pichardo, he detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage and noted that he appeared to be impaired, police said.

A man killed his sister before turning the gun on himself in Pennsauken on Wednesday, Sept. 16, authorities said.
