Search Continues For Missing Kayaker In Raritan Bay The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a missing kayaker in Raritan Bay off Keyport. Zhenjing Ding is 74 years old. He is 5’6” tall and weighs 140 to 160 pounds. Coast Guard Sector New York command center watchstanders received a report Monday, Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m. from Keyport police that Ding’s kayak was found. It was near Cedar Street Park in Keyport Harbor along with personal belongings, and no sight of him in the area. Jersey Shore Fire Chief Tim Pfleger Dies, 32 A Jersey Shore fire department is mourning the loss of their chief. Keyport Fire Department Chief Tim Pfleger, 32, died over the weekend, the department announced on Facebook. Pfleger had been hurt in an accident returning from the fire academy in July, NJ Advance Media reports. Pfleger joined the department as a cadet in 2007. The following year, he joined Keyport Fire Patrol, having served as a lieutenant and captain. In 2019, Pfleger was elected as the Third Assistant Chief of the Department. Irvington Kayaker Drowns In Raritan Bay A 64-year-old kayaker and resident of Irvington drowned in Monmouth County, authorities said. At about 1:35 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, Keyport police received a 911 call reporting two kayakers in distress in Raritan Bay.  Keyport police arrived and observed one kayaker on the shore, who stated that their friend was still in the water. Officer Degroat, a member of the Monmouth County Dive Team, was able to use a kayak and locate the man in the water.
