Monmouth University pollsters have tried to answer a question that has been hard to solve for many in the Garden State: Where is Central Jersey exactly? The Monmouth University Polling Institute released a survey on Tuesday, Apr. 16 that asked New Jerseyans what region they live in and if they believe their region gets a fair share of state resources. $15M Lotto Ticket Sold In Freehold Amid Hot Streak For New Jersey
Another lottery ticket worth millions of dollars was sold in Monmouth County, officials said. The New Jersey Lottery said a Pick-6 ticket worth $15 million was sold at the Wawa convenience store on Highway 33 in Freehold. The $30 million jackpot was split with another winning ticket in Morris County. The winners were in the Pick-6 drawing on Thursday, Mar. 28. The winning numbers were 13, 27, 32, 36, 37, and 43. An 18-year-old Bernardsville teenager was arrested and charged with a home invasion that occurred last week, authorities said. On the early morning of Tuesday, March 5, Maicol Fernandez entered a home in Bernardsville armed with a knife, and demanded money, Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr., and Bernardsville Borough Chief of Police John Remian said. Man Struck, Killed By Train In Somerset County
A man was struck and killed by an NJ Transit train in Somerset County on Monday afternoon, Dec. 18, authorities said. The man was fatally struck by the Gladstone Branch train 421 just west of the Basking Ridge station shortly before 2:55 p.m., an NJ Transit spokesperson told Daily Voice. The train had left Hoboken at 1:22 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Gladstone at 3:19 p.m. There were no injuries reported to the approximately 10 customers and crew members on board. One of New Jersey's oldest movie theaters has reopened for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. Bernardsville Cinema 3 officially reopened on Friday, Oct. 27, with the International Bernardsville Film Festival, which will run through Sunday, Oct. 29. The cinema, located at 5 Minebrook Road in Bernardsville, was built in 1910 by Frank Allen, a developer downtown, the theater's website says. Train Kills Pedestrian In Somerset County
A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train in Somerset County, officials confirmed. The crash involving Gladstone Branch Train 440 occurred just before 10:50 p.m. Wednesday, July 27 in Far Hills, NJ Transit officials said. No injuries to the three customers or crew members were reported. The train was scheduled to arrive in Hoboken at 12:22 p.m. Gladstone Branch was temporarily suspended between Bernardsville and Gladstone but has since resumed. A 68-year-old Somerset County man was arrested on accusations he sexually assaulted a girl for three years beginning when she was six years old, authorities said. Teodoro R. Velazquez, of Bernardsville, was arrested following an investigation beginning in June 2021, Acting Somerset County Prosecutor Thomas Chirichella said. The girl told detectives she was abused by Velazquez from 2013 to 2017 in Bernardsville, Chirichella said alongside local police. These NJ ShopRite Stores Imposing Customer Limit Amid Coronavirus Spread
More than two dozen New Jersey ShopRite stores have implemented customer limits in an effort to stop the spread of coronavirus. The maximum number of customers will be roughly 30 percent of the store’s regular maximum occupancy, ShopRite said in a statement.
