Animal Cruelty Suspect Escapes Jail Sentence: Gets Lifetime Ban On Owning Pets: Prosecutor Says Over objections from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, a 30 year-old woman from Toms River will not get any jail time on an animal cruelty charge in which three dogs died.  Instead, Alyssa DeStefano was sentenced on Friday to 60 hours of community service, probation and a lifetime ban on owning animals, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Merrill Spencer pleaded guilty on Nov. 22 to aggravated manslaughter, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D.
