Amtrak and NJ Transit customers were livid over service disruptions between Penn Station and Newark due to downed power lines blocking the tracks on Wednesday evening, May 22. In a statement posted to X, Amtrak said service was stopped at 5:36 p.m. with no estimation of restoration. As of 10 p.m., widespread delays were being reported by Amtrak. Officials ID 28-Year-Old Man Killed By Train In Plainfield Officials have identified the victim struck and killed by a train last week in Plainfield as a 28-year-old resident. Wilber Anibal Hernandez Rivas was struck by Raritan Valley Line train 5413 near the Grant Avenue bridge in Plainfield around 8:55 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, NJT spokesman Jim Smith said. The train departed Newark Penn Station at 7:59 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Raritan at 9:08 a.m. There were no reported injuries to the 20 customers or the crew on board. Somerset Teen Struck, Killed By Train A teenage boy from Bridgewater was struck and killed by a commuter train on Memorial Day. The boy, described only as a minor, was struck by an eastbound Raritan Valley Line train west of the Bridgewater station shortly before 4:30 p.m. Monday, responders said. Six people were aboard the train, which left Raritan at 4:16 p.m. and was due to arrive at Newark’s Penn Station at 5:15 p.m. Services was suspended for more than 2½ hours between Raritan and Bound Brook. NJ Transit police were investigating.
