An out-of-state man ignited a fire while smoking pot in a trailer off Route 120 in Carlstadt, authorities said. Detective Sgt. Mark Wong was headed north on the highway when he saw smoke coming from the roof of the trailer on the Home Improvement Team property less than a mile north of the Meadowlands shortly before 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22. A truck driver from Carlstadt was charged with recording indecent images of a pre-teen. Marlon Mendoza-Salas, 30, “engaged in sexual conduct” with the underage child “on multiple occasions in Bergen County,” Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said Wednesday. Authorities: Carlstadt Officer Not Fooled By Wanted Newark Driver Switching Seats
A wanted Newark man tried to avoid detection by switching seats with his passenger when a Carlstadt police officer stopped him for making an illegal turn, authorities said. The silver Nissan that illegally turned right off northbound Route 120 into the Hampton Inn parking lot also had tinted windows and an obstructed license plate when Officer Matthew Bartlett stopped it, Police Chief Thomas Berta said Monday.
