A pair of teenagers have been charged with the fatal shooting of a Union County man, authorities said.

The unidentified juveniles are charged in the shooting death of Mark Atkins, 18, of Plainfield, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and North Brunswick Police Chief Joseph Battaglia.

One suspect is in custody and the other remains at large, they said late Friday.

The 17-year-old suspects are charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder and possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, Ciccone and Battaglia said.

On Wednesday at about 7:30 p.m., North Brunswick police responded to Marc Drive on reports of a shooting.

Police found the fatally wounded Atkins as well as a 17-year-old shooting victim at the Glen at Renaissance Apartments,  they said. The second victim's injuries were not life-threatening.

The investigation is active and continuing. Anyone with information is urged to call Detective Errol McCalla of the North Brunswick Police Department at 732-247-0922 ext. 311 or Detective Sean Sullivan of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-745-4060.
