On Wednesday, Feb. 28 at about 2:20 p.m., West Windsor police responded to a single-car crash on Route 1 South just south of Carnegie Center Blvd. The vehicle that crashed was reported to have struck a pole and was in the roadway, West Windsor police said.
A preliminary investigation found that the Honda was traveling south when it veered off of the roadway and struck a telephone pole, police said.
After hitting the pole, the Honda spun back onto the highway where it came to rest blocking two lanes of travel, they said.
The driver and the front seat passenger, a 41-year-old woman from West Windsor, suffered minor injuries, police said.
The rear seat passenger, a 39-year-old woman from Pennington, was taken to the Trauma Center at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in critical condition, police said.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, however, "there is the possibility that the driver of the Honda experienced a medical episode that caused him to lose consciousness while driving," police said in a statement. He was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center by the Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad.
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision Response Team responded to the scene to assist with the ongoing investigation.
Names of the Honda's occupants had not been released.
