Lodi man had sex with Garfield girl, 12, authorities charge

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A Lodi man had sex with a Garfield girl when she was 12 years old, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said this afternoon in announcing his arrest.

Jose A. Acosta, 31, was taken into custody after the girl, now 16, told her mother, Molinelli said.

Her parents went to Garfield police, who notified the prosecutor’s Special Victims Unit. During a subsequent interview, the girl “provided specific details regarding what had occurred,” Molinelli said.

Acosta, who the prosecutor said is single and self-employed, remained held on $300,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and child endangerment. An arraignment was set for this coming Tuesday.
