Neighbors Help Hydrate Firefighters Dousing Garage Blaze In Mahwah
Neighbors brought water bottles and firefighters from Rockland joined their colleagues on the New Jersey side of the border in dousing a garage blaze in Mahwah. The fire broke out on Sherwood Avenue, a mile from the state line, shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 5. Working swiftly in the 90-degree heat, crews needed less than 10 minutes to keep the blaze from doing serious damage to the home just 10 feet away. Firefighters Douse Mahwah Basement Blaze Near Rockland Border
Firefighters battled heat exhaustion along with a basement blaze Wednesday night in Mahwah. No serious injuries were reported in the fire, which broke out shortly before 8 p.m. in the two-story home on dead-ended Storrs Court off East Crescent Road near the Rockland County border. Firefighters had the blaze knocked down within a half-hour. The cause wasn't immediately determined. Mutual aid at the scene or in coverage included firefighters from Ramsey, Wyckoff, Hillburn, Sloatsburg, Suffern and Tallman, as well as Mahwah police and EMS.

Gym Fire Doused Off Route 17
Firefighters doused an early-morning commercial blaze off Route 17. The two-alarm fire broke out in a building that houses Powerhouse Gym on McKee Drive in Mahwah around 7 a.m. Firefighters had it knocked down in under a half-hour. Island Road was temporarily closed. No injuries were reported. Mahwah firefighters brought their fan boat to ventilate the building. Mutual aid responders requested either at the scene or in coverage included firefighters from Ramsey, Montvale, Ridgewood and Ho-Ho-Kus, as well as Hilburn, Hillcrest, Sloatsburg, Suffern and Tallman.

Mulch Fire Doused Outside Mahwah Housing Development
Firefighters doused a mulch blaze that spread to a Mahwah affordable housing development before it could do severe damage. The two-alarm fire broke out at the Ramapo Brae development off Stag Hill Road near Route 287 and the Ramapo RIver around 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 29. Township firefighters doused the Brae Lane blaze after it extended to one of the buildings. A brush fire along the Bergen/Rockland border temporarily closed the Ramapo Reservation after sending a column of smoke skyward that could be seen in Westchester. UPDATE: A 59-year-old gasoline tanker driver from Paterson was killed in a massive fireball during a crash on Route 287 near the New York State border in Mahwah early Saturday, New Jersey State Police confirmed. A series of explosions were heard after the rig rolled and burst into flames on a notorious stretch of the southbound highway near Route 17 and the New York State Thruway at 6:47 a.m., NJSP Sgt. Critically Injured Motorcyclist Airlifted In Route 287 Crash
A critically injured motorcyclist was airlifted following a crash Saturday afternoon on Route 287 in Wanaque, responders said. The cyclist suffered severe head trauma and a broken leg crashing into a guardrail on the northbound side of the highway near mile marker 56 around 3:15 p.m., they said. Responders said he was intubated and flown aboard AirMed One to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson. The Tallman, NY fire chief had been passing and stopped to assist, responders said. Mahwah firefighters were helping their colleagues from Hillburn, Sloatsburg and Tallan douse a brush fire in a remote wooded area of Rockland on Sunday when a house fire broke out nearby in town. The fire, which originated in the kitchen, was quickly knocked down, although it did cause some damage. Mutual aid was provided by firefighters from Ramsey, Franklin Lakes, Allendale, Saddle River, Upper Saddle River and Suffern. No injuries were reported. Firefighters battled a Monday afternoon blaze fueled by a propane tank in the rear of a Mahwah home at the New York border. The fire was reported around 3:20 p.m. on Doremus Road in Mahwah just off East Crescent Avenue (which becomes Church Road in NY), barely 500 yards from the Airmont line.
