The victim was walking on Ferry Street near Merchant Street when he was knocked unconscious by Tyjihad Ellison, 21, around 10 a.m., Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara said. The man was taken to University Hospital where he reportedly was in stable condition. Ellison, who reportedly suffers from mental illness, was charged with aggravated assault, police said.

Click here for more.  Two men jumped out of a car on Ferry Street Sunday morning in Newark and robbed a passerby, WABC 7 reported.  Surveillance video shows the woman getting pistol-whipped by one of the assailants before both jump back in the car. The woman was unhurt.  Police believe the Newark robbery may be connected to robberies the same day in Kearny and East Newark. One person, a 17-year-old, was arrested in East Newark but two are still at large.
