UPDATE: The body of a New Milford High School senior was removed from a borough pond hours after what witnesses said was a tragic accident. Clinten Ajit, 18, was doing a good deed when he went into the Hard Castle Pond behind the Dorchester Manor Apartments near the borough athletic fields around 7:15 p.m. Friday, April 22. "Some kids accidentally kicked a soccer ball in the water and [he] said he would get it for them," a responder said after police spoke with witnesses. Fire from a downed powerline extended to a Lodi home and a stretch of plastic fence. No injuries were reported in the fire on Passaic Street at Charles Street around 8:30 p.m. Monday, March 28. The first floor sustained minor damage. Hasbrouck Heights, Saddle Brook, Wallington and Wood-Ridge firefighters assisted. Firefighters doused a pre-dawn blaze at an industrial supply company in Garfield. The fire ignited shortly after 3:30 a.m. Thursday, March 24, at the Metro Industrial Supply Company on the corner of Morell Place and Charles Street, responders said. Firefighters cut through a garage door to access the bulk of the blaze, which was declared under control about an hour after it began. No injuries were reported. No injuries were reported in a quickly-doused Garfield house fire. The Malcolm Avenue blaze broke out on the second floor of a two-story wood-frame house around 10:50 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10. Firefighters Douse Blaze In Rutherford Home Under Renovation
Firefighters in Rutherford quickly extinguished an attic fire Monday night. The fire broke out around 7:30 p.m. in a single-family Victorian home being renovated at Mountain Way and Windsor Place, the department said. It instantly went to two alarms, with fire in the walls of the 2½-story, wood-frame home. Firefighters had the blaze under control within a half hour. No injuries were reported. Fire Chief Dennis Gentile was the incident commander. His squad was assisted by firefighters from East Rutherford and Wallington.

A Sunday fire ripped through one Passaic home and extended to others on either side.
