A 20-year-old driver was arrested after pulling a knife on a 73-year-old motorist during a road rage incident in Midland Park, authorities said. Police responding to the call stopped a Volkswagen at Mohawk Avenue and North 17th Street in Hawthorne and arrested Anthony Polnarev of Wyckoff around 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 28. A world without Beata Onefater is a duller one, those who knew her said. The 45-year-old Hawthorne resident — who shone as an icon in Latin and ballroom dancer globally — died on Tuesday, May 30, embraced by her family, according to her obituary. Rider, 69, Airlifted After Falling From Horse In West Milford
A 69-year-old rider from Hawthorne was airlifted to the hospital after falling off a horse in West Milford, authorities said. The victim was conscious but disoriented and had several small cuts on his face following the mishap at the Echo Lake Stables on Blakely Lane, off Route 23, shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday, June 3, Police Detective Sgt. Hawthorne firefighters kept a heavy blaze from doing even more damage to a local townhouse complex Friday night. The two-alarm fire broke out in the middle unit of the three-story wood-frame townhouse on Metro Vista Drive at Alana Drive around 7:45 p.m. and quickly traveled up the walls, responders said. Powerful winds from the overnight Christmas storm blew a section of roof from a row of storefronts with apartments in Hawthorne. No injuries were reported in the Lafayette Avenue mishap, which firefighters said occured shortly before 12:30 a.m. They said they arrived to find the roof section resting on power lines.
