Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Extradition Sought For Florida Man Accused Of Raping Ridgewood Girl, 11 RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- A 36-year-old communications tech from Florida was arrested there on charges of raping an 11-year-old girl in Ridgewood, authorities said Friday. Joseph McCain was being held without bail in Orange County pending extradition proceedings, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said. He is charged in New Jersey with aggravated sexual assault and child endangerment. Wayne Man Gets 5 Years In State Prison For Distributing Child Porn WAYNE,, N.J. -- A Wayne man was sentenced to five years in statio prison Friday for distributing child pornography online. Joshua A. Kane, 35, was among 27 people buste in 2012 as a result of “Operation Watchdog,” a multi-agency investigation led by the New Jersey State Police and the Division of Criminal Justice that targeted offenders, Acting Attorney General Robert Lougy said. Paramus Police Charge Motorcyclist In Chase That Led To Fatal Crash PARAMUS, N.J. -- An Orange County, N.Y. motorcyclist who led a police chase that caused a crash that killed a motorist Thursday afternoon in Hackensack was hospitalized under guard after Paramus police charged him with eluding. Off-Duty Paterson Police Officer Indicted In Fatal Hit-And-Run PATERSON, N.J. -- A grand jury in Paterson indicted an off-duty city police officer with leaving the scene of a fatal car crash and endangering an injured victim, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Elmwood Park Driver Uninjured In Utility Pole Crash ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. -- A driver escaped without injury after her sedan downed a utility pole Thursday afternoon in Elmwood Park. "There were no drugs or alcohol or speed or anything involved," Police Chief Michael Foligno told Daily Voice. "She just failed to negotiate the turn."
