Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Elmwood Park Driver Uninjured In Utility Pole Crash ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. -- A driver escaped without injury after her sedan downed a utility pole Thursday afternoon in Elmwood Park. "There were no drugs or alcohol or speed or anything involved," Police Chief Michael Foligno told Daily Voice. "She just failed to negotiate the turn." The crash occurred just before 5 p.m. Thursday on Boulevard near the Walgreens.

Passaic Sheriff's Detectives Bust Paterson Man On Child Porn Charges PATERSON, N.J. -- A tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led Passaic County sheriff’s investigators to a Paterson man who they said was distributing child pornography. A judge ordered 19-year-old Abdel McCrea held on $35,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail on child porn possession charges. Members of Sheriff Richard H. Hackensack Firefighters Douse Laundry Blaze HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Hackensack firefighteres quickly put down a blaze at a local laundry Thursday morning. Members of the 2nd platoon responded to the two-alarm First Street blaze just before 10 a.m., Lt. Justin Derevyanik said. No injuries were reported in the fire, which broke out in the rear of the building, Derevyanik said. Teaneck firefighters sent a FAST team and Hackensack University Medical Center an EMS unit. Fire officials were investigating the cause.

Passaic County Sheriff: Ex-Con With Guns Busted Selling Heroin PATERSON, N.J. -- Passaic County sheriff's officers busted a street-level heroin operation, seized 1,085 small bags of the drug, two handguns and more than $2,500 in cash while arresting an accused dealer. Clifton Man Charged In Barroom Stabbing CLIFTON, N.J.– Clifton Police on Wednesday charged a local man with a stabbing another in the back at a local tavern over the weekend. Kevin Figueroa, 23, was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and illegal weapons counts in connection with the Saturday night stabbing at the Courtside Pub, authorities said. The victim, who was stabbed twice, sustained injuries to one of his lungs and his liver, authorities said. He was hospitalized for several days before being released, they said.
