Overturned Truck Causes Traffic Nightmare On New Jersey Turnpike An overturned truck on the New Jersey Turnpike has snarled the afternoon commute to halt on Friday, May 3. The truck overturned by Exit 13A of the New Jersey Turnpike near Newark Liberty International Airport and Routes 1 and 9 in Elizabeth, according to 511nj.  The left shoulder is blocked and delays are extending three miles from Kearny to Newark, 511nj said. Traffic cameras showed vehicles creeping along the highway as of press time.

21-Year-Old Jumper Rescued From River Beneath NJ Bridge, Police Say Edison police rescued a 21-year-old man who jumped off the Morris Goodkind Bridge, authorities said. The call came in shortly before 6:30 a.m. Monday, April 15 along Route 1 near the Raritan River Boat Club, Edison Deputy Chief Robert Dudash said. Police found an unoccupied car on the bridge and a man in the water, Dudash said. Two officers swam out to rescue the man, he said. The man was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital where he was recovering fine, Dudash said. The two officers suffered mild hypothermia and were taken to JFK Hospital for treatment. Ex-con Shamar Leggette was the subject of a manhunt following the infamous 2022 gunpoint robbery of "Bling Bishop" Lamor Whitehead of Paramus during a live-streamed church service in Brooklyn. Man Fatally Struck By Vehicle Crossing Highway: Linden Police (Update) A 60-year-old Linden man was fatally struck by a vehicle on Monday, Dec. 18, police said. A 78-year-old man and an 83-year-old woman from Old Bridge were heading south on Route 1 when they fatally struck the man as he crossed the highway at 6:49 p.m., police said.  The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Police declined to identify who was driving the vehicle, citing the ongoing investigation. Female Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Truck In Elizabeth A female pedestrian crossing the street was struck and killed by a truck getting off Route 1 Thursday night in Elizabeth. The woman was outside of the crosswalk when she was hit around 8 p.m. at Route 1 and North Avenue East, City Spokeswoman Kelly Martins said. EMS rendered first aid to the woman, who was later pronounced dead at the hospital, authoriteis said. "The truck driver remained at the scene, fully cooperated and turned over everything," Martins said. "No alcohol or drugs were involved, it seems to be a tragic accident." The woman had not been identified as of Friday morning.

A wire downed in Thursday night's storm ignited two vehicles in the depot, filled with hundreds of new vehicles, next to Metro Fuel on Hudson Avenue near H Mart, authorities said. Report: Pickup Driver In Crash That Killed 5 Teaneck Family Members Gets 1 Year Probation A man who killed a Teaneck father and his four daughters when his pickup truck veered across a Delaware highway into the path of their minivan was sentenced to a year's probation on Friday, according to a published report. Alvin Hubbard III, of Maryland, could be sentenced to 14 years in prison if he doesn't meet the requirements of his probation.
