Twenty Displaced Following Three Jersey City Fires Firefighters had a busy Sunday, May 8, in Jersey City, with three different residential fires displacing 20 people, authorities said. Jersey City firefighters were first called to 150 New York Ave. at 1:44 p.m. for a two-alarm fire in a three-story three-family residential structure, Kimberly Wallace-Scalfione, a spokeswoman for the mayor's office said. The home suffered extensive damage and nine people were relocated by the Red Cross, Wallace-Scalfione said. No injuries were reported, Wallace-Scalfione said. The blaze broke out around 3:30 p.m. at 160 Smith St., and had risen to four alarms by the evening. At least two collapses were reported. All city companies were operating, with mutual aid at the scene. More than two dozen people were displaced. The cause remains under investigation.
